Tynwald Day 2025
The Tynwald Day Ceremony and the Public Holiday will be Monday 7th July 2025.
Tynwald Day is usually held on the 5th July but when the 5th falls on a weekend, the Ceremony is moved to the following Monday. All planned activities happening around the formal ceremony will be happening as usual.

Acts for Promulgation
Vaping Products Act 2024
AN ACT to make provision in respect of the manufacture of vaping products, the composition of vaping liquids and the sale, importation, advertising and promotion of such products; and for connected purposes.
Employment (Amendment) Act 2024
AN ACT to amend the Employment Act 2006 to make further provision for family leave rights and whistleblowing; and for connected purposes.
Fines and Penalties Act 2024
AN ACT to modernise references in Acts of Tynwald to fines and penalties imposed on summary conviction and to amend certain provisions relating to daily fines or penalties in such legislation; and for connected purposes.
Public Sector Payments Act 2025
AN ACT to enable payments to holders of certain posts or positions and members of certain bodies, and for connected purposes.
Charities Registration and Regulation (Amendment) Act 2025
AN ACT to amend the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019 to provide for the delegation of the regulatory functions of the Attorney General in connection with charities.
What's On and Entertainment
The entertainment on Tynwald Day before and after the Ceremony is always a focal point for friends and family. The entertainment will start at 9am with activities timetabled all day across the site including Bunscoill Ghaelgagh, the Viking Village in Cooil-y-Ree, the Global Village in the Arboretum and the Tynwald Fayre on the back Fairfield.
The Viking Encampment
The Vikings introduced the Norse system of law-making and open-air assemblies as part of their customs and legal systems. Known as Things, this is were where political decisions were made, laws upheld and disputes settled. They acted as meeting places and were often the focus for trade and religious activity. To celebrate Tynwald and our Viking history, a Viking encampment is set up in Cooil-y-Ree every year showing how our Viking ancestors settled on our Island.
The Global Village
The One World Centre will host the Global Village again this year, showcasing the variety of cultures here on the Isle of Man. The team provide fun, food, music, song and dance from around the world as well as loads of stalls from charities and other groups dedicated to making the world a fairer and more sustainable place for all.
Tynwald Fayre
A not to be missed part of Tynwald Day is all the stallholders on the Back Fairfield.
All plots are free and a ballot is taken each year to allocate plots to small businesses, charities and catering outlets. All add to the entertainment of the day and you never know what you might find, or who you might meet!
Manx Weekend
A celebration of Manx culture will take place across the Island on Tynwald bank holiday weekend 5th to 7th July 2025.

Ceremony and Guests
The open-air sitting of Tynwald Hill continues a tradition which has lasted for over a thousand years. The ceremony’s roots are in the Viking customs of those who settled in the Island in the tenth century. Tynwald invites honoured guests from off-island to attend the religious service in the Chapel and the ceremony on Tynwald Hill itself showcasing Tynwald and the Isle of Man.
The traditional Tynwald Day ceremony begins when the participants in the parade assemble at St John's School ready to march up to line the processional way. The Lieutenant Governor arrives and receives the Royal Salute and inspects the Guard of Honour before laying a wreath on the War Memorial.
Following the service the outdoor part of the ceremony begins with processions to Tynwald Hill. During the ceremony on the Hill the Acts are promulgated, Coroners are sworn in and there is an opportunity to present Petitions for Redress. Those assembled then process back to the church for a sitting of Tynwald, during which the Acts are captioned.
Full details of the ceremony on Tynwald Hill and the sittings in the Chapel will be detailed in the Tynwald Day programme. This is available free to Grandstand ticket holders or for £2 from the Information and Ticket point on Tynwald Day.
UK ARMED FORCES REPRESENTATIVES
- The UK armed forces representatives are from the Royal Air Force and the British Army.
- The Guard of Honour is King’s Colour Squadron (part of the RAF). The Guard Commander is Flight Lieutenant C Moore.
- The Band is the Band of the Royal Air Force College. The Director of Music is Flying Officer Tim Hynd. The band will perform a selection of music from their repertoire and for Tynwald Day, selected Manx music.
- The Fanfare Team is from The Band of The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (part of the British Army). The Director of Music is Major Robert Hopla.

Bus Services
On Tynwald Day the Public Holiday bus service operates with additional journeys to serve the National Festivities at St. John's.
Due to the road closures in St Johns please note that the last departures to serve the Tynwald Inn stop before the Ceremony starts are the 0922 departure from Douglas, Lord Street and the 1005 departure from Peel Town Hall.

Parking
Parking for the general public will be available at St John's - see map.
Parking passes should be displayed in car windows to assist those directing traffic.
Please obey all traffic restrictions and follow all directions given by the Scouts who assist with traffic management on the day.
Stallholder parking - follow the instructions provided in your stallholder pack and use your provided car parking pass.
Disabled Parking
There will be a designated area at St John’s for reserved parking for persons in possession of a disabled badge. If you wish to apply for a parking pass (free of charge) please contact the Office on tel 685500 or enquiries@tynwald.org.im The passes will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis and despatched two weeks prior to the Ceremony.

10:00-14:00: A1 Ballacraine to St Johns Main Road, extending westwards from a point opposite the west gable of the former Ballacraine Hotel to its junction with Station Road.
14:00-16:00: A1 from a point outside the entrance to the Arboretum Car Park westwards to its junction with Station Road.
10:00-16:00: Glen Mooar Road from the A1 Douglas to Peel Road to its junction with Brack and Broom Lane.
10:00-10:30 and 12:30-13:30: Station Road from the Tynwald Inn junction to the Patrick Road junction for the forming up and dissolution of the parades.
16:00-22:30: Glen Mooar Road from the A1 Douglas to Peel Road to a point at the rear of Tynwald Hill indicated by barriers.

16:00-22:30: Brack and Broom Lane from its junction with the Glen Mooar Road to its junction with the Glen Mooar Loop Road, one-way traffic system - North-Westerly.
16:00-22:30: Glen Mooar Loop Road from its junction with Brack and Broom Lane to its junction with the Glen Mooar Road, one-way traffic system - North-Easterly.
20mph limit on all affected roads for the duration of the restrictions.
Grandstand Tickets
Grandstand tickets will be available for purchase week beginning 19th May 2025.
Tickets for a grandstand seat are £5 each which includes a Tynwald Programme. Family tickets (two adults and any number of children) are also available.
Grandstand tickets are available to buy from Legislative Buildings, Douglas. The building is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm or tickets can be ordered over the phone with a card payment - telephone 685500. Please be aware that the Office in Douglas will not be open on Tynwald Day.
- Tickets can be collected from the Information and Ticket point in St. John's on 7th July.
- Tickets for Grandstand seating will also be available to purchase on Tynwald Day from the Information and Ticket point located on the back Fairfield behind the Grandstand.
Petitions of Redress
Persons wishing to present Petitions for Redress at the Tynwald Ceremony on 7th July are reminded that Petitions must comply with the Standing Orders of Tynwald.

Petitioners are strongly encouraged to seek advice from the Clerk of Tynwald in advance of submitting their Petition.
A meeting will be held at 10.15 am on 7th July, at the Lych Gate to the Royal Chapel.

Accreditation
As in previous years passes will be required for anyone attending the Tynwald Ceremony in the capacity of journalist/photographer on Monday 7th July 2025. Persons who are not accredited will not be permitted to enter the ceremonial precincts. In order to apply for accreditation, please contact this office - enquiries@tynwald.org.im
1. Only accredited media representatives may photograph, film, record or broadcast within the ceremonial precincts during the Tynwald Ceremony at St John’s on Friday 7th July 2025.
2. Accredited media representatives must conduct themselves appropriately with the precincts, taking care not to cause any disruption or obstruction to proceedings.
3. Accredited media representatives must treat parliamentary staff and ceremony ushers with courtesy and consideration.
4. An appropriate standard of dress must be observed (office wear and ties for men).
5. Accreditation should be applied for annually and is not granted on a continuing basis.
6. Media Passes must be worn and visible at all times throughout the Ceremony.
Interviews
1. Tynwald Members may make themselves available for interview prior to 10.15 am.
2. Accredited media are asked not to attempt to interview Members of Tynwald or Official Guests from 10.15 am until the completion of the Ceremony.
3. The Ceremony does not end until after the departure of the Lieutenant Governor.
Access within the Ceremonial Precincts
Access is permitted to accredited media representatives within certain areas of the Tynwald Ceremonial Precincts. Access will still be restricted on the Hill, in the Chapel. the War Memorial and the Ceremonial Way.
