Tynwald Day 2024
On Friday 5th July the Isle of Man celebrated its National Day. Tynwald Hill took the spotlight for the day, from the start of formal proceedings in the morning with the Schools Parade through the village to the bottom of Tynwald Hill, up until the Manx Anthem is played atop the Hill at 10pm.
The formal Ceremony also revolves around the Hill with the procession from the Royal Chapel to Tynwald Hill following hundreds of years of tradition to hear each Act of Tynwald being read out in Manx and English by the Deemsters, in the presence of all Tynwald Members, officials, guests, and the King’s representative His Excellency Sir John Lorimer KCB DSO MBE, Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man.
As a Crown Dependency the British Armed Forces are represented each year with a Guard of Honour and a Military Band. This year the Royal Navy State Ceremonial Training Section and the Band and Fanfare Team of the Band of the RAF Regiment.

Trusts and Trustees Act 2023
AN ACT to amend the Trustee Act 2001 in respect of trustees’ duties, powers and liabilities, to amend the Trustee Act 1961 in respect of trustees’ powers and the powers of the court, to amend the Limitation Act 1984 in respect of actions against trust property and to amend the Apportionment Act 1982 in respect of entitlement to income arising under a trust; and for connected purposes.
Income Tax Act 2023
AN ACT to confirm the Income Tax (Substance Requirements and Related Provisions) Order 2023.
Animal Welfare Act 2023
AN ACT to make provision relating to animal welfare and to empower the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to apply legislation of the United Kingdom relating to the welfare of animals to the Island; and for connected purposes.
Gas Regulation (Amendment) Act 2024
AN ACT to amend section 12 of the Gas Regulation Act 1995 to confer power on the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority to require persons to produce documents and furnish information to it for the purposes of the setting of parameters within which a public gas supplier may fix tariffs (and to make consequential amendments); to amend Schedule 2 to that Act to confer on the Council of Ministers the power to make orders to specify circumstances where non-payment by a tariff customer may not lead to the cutting off of the supply of gas to premises; and for connected purposes.
Sanctions Act 2024
AN ACT to provide for the implementation in the Island of United Kingdom sanctions provisions; to amend the Terrorism and Other Crime (Financial Restrictions) Act 2014 so as to align certain provisions more closely with equivalent provisions of United Kingdom law; and for connected purposes.
Income Tax Act 2024
AN ACT to confirm the Income Tax (Personal Allowance) (Temporary Taxation) Order 2023; to amend the Income Tax Act 1970; and for connected purposes.
What's On and Entertainment
The entertainment on Tynwald Day before and after the Ceremony is always a focal point for friends and family. The entertainment will start at 9am with all day activities happening in Bunscoill Ghaelgagh, Cooil y Ree as well as the stallholders on the back Fairfield.
Manx National Week
A celebration of Manx National Week will take place across the Island from 30th June until 7th July 2024 with a variety of events and activities. Annual events like the Cronk-y-Voddy Sports Day and the traditional Tynwald Day Ceremony on Friday 5th July will be highlights of Manx National week alongside events across the Island including Manx National Heritage’s Martin Parr photography exhibition, an archive exhibition at The Leece Museum and Manx National Week displays across selected primary schools, including Laxey, Dhoon and Willaston.

Ceremony and Guests
The open-air sitting of Tynwald on 5th July continues a tradition which has lasted for over a thousand years. The ceremony’s roots are in the Viking customs of those who settled in the Island in the tenth century. Tynwald invites honoured guests from off-island to attend the religious service in the Chapel and the ceremony on Tynwald Hill itself showcasing Tynwald and the Isle of Man.
The traditional Tynwald Day ceremony begins when the participants in the parade assemble at St John's School ready to march up to line the processional way. The Lieutenant Governor arrives and receives the Royal Salute and inspects the Guard of Honour before laying a wreath on the War Memorial.
Following the service the outdoor part of the ceremony begins with processions to Tynwald Hill. During the ceremony on the Hill the Acts are promulgated, Coroners are sworn in and there is an opportunity to present Petitions for Redress. Those assembled then process back to the church for a sitting of Tynwald, during which the Acts are captioned.
Full details of the ceremony on Tynwald Hill and the sittings in the Chapel will be detailed in the Tynwald Day programme. This is available free to Grandstand ticket holders or for £2 from the Information and Ticket point on Tynwald Day.

Bus Services
Due to road closures, please note that the last departures to serve the Tynwald Inn stop before the Ceremony are the 0922 departure from Douglas, Lord Street and the 0920 departure from Peel Town Hall. On Tynwald Day the Public Holiday bus service operates with additional journeys to serve the National Festivities at St. John's.

Parking for the general public will be available at St John's - see map.
Parking passes should be displayed in car windows to assist those directing traffic.
Please obey all traffic restrictions and follow all directions given by the Scouts who assist with traffic management on the day
Disabled Parking
There will be a designated area at St John’s for reserved parking for persons in possession of a disabled badge. If you wish to apply for a parking pass (free of charge) please contact the Office on tel 685500 or enquiries@tynwald.org.im The passes will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis and despatched two weeks prior to the Ceremony.

10:00-16:00: Glen Mooar Road from the A1 Douglas to Peel Road to its junction with Brack and Broom Lane.

Grandstand Tickets

Tickets for a grandstand seat are £5 each which includes a Tynwald Programme. Family tickets (two adults and any number of children) are also available.
Grandstand tickets are available to buy from Legislative Buildings, Douglas. The building is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm or tickets can be ordered over the phone with a card payment - telephone 685500. Please be aware that the Office in Douglas will not be open on Tynwald Day.
- Tickets can be collected from the Information and Ticket point in St. John's on 5th July.
- Tickets for Grandstand seating will also be available to purchase on Tynwald Day from the Information and Ticket point until 10.15am. The Information and Ticket point is located on the back Fairfield behind the Grandstand.
Petitions of Redress
Persons wishing to present Petitions for Redress at the Tynwald Ceremony on 5th July are reminded that Petitions must comply with the Standing Orders of Tynwald.

Petitioners are strongly encouraged to seek advice from the Clerk of Tynwald in advance of submitting their Petition.

Accreditation
As in previous years passes will be required for anyone attending the Tynwald Ceremony in the capacity of journalist/photographer on Friday 5th July 2024. Persons who are not accredited will not be permitted to enter the ceremonial precincts. In order to apply for accreditation, please contact this office - enquiries@tynwald.org.im
Please note that applications must be received as soon as possible, but no later than Wednesday 19th June 2024. We cannot guarantee that applications received after this date will be processed.
1. Only accredited media representatives may photograph, film, record or broadcast within the ceremonial precincts during the Tynwald Ceremony at St John’s on Friday 5th July 2024.
2. Accredited media representatives must conduct themselves appropriately with the precincts, taking care not to cause any disruption or obstruction to proceedings.
3. Accredited media representatives must treat parliamentary staff and ceremony ushers with courtesy and consideration.
4. An appropriate standard of dress must be observed (office wear and ties for men).
5. Accreditation should be applied for annually and is not granted on a continuing basis.
6. Media Passes must be worn and visible at all times throughout the Ceremony.
Interviews
1. Tynwald Members may make themselves available for interview prior to 10.15 am.
2. Accredited media are asked not to attempt to interview Members of Tynwald or Official Guests from 10.15 am until the completion of the Ceremony.
3. The Ceremony does not end until after the departure of the Lieutenant Governor.
Access within the Ceremonial Precincts
Access is permitted to accredited media representatives within certain areas of the Tynwald Ceremonial Precincts. Access will still be restricted on the Hill, in the Chapel. the War Memorial and the Ceremonial Way.
